Teacher of Art - Ancora House School - Required for January 2024 6 months Maternity Cover

Due to the recent promotion of the current maternity cover Art Teacher, Ancora House School’s governing body wish to recruit a teacher of Art to cover maternity absence.

The post is fulltime but we would consider offering the post on less hours which would need to be agreed. It would suit a qualified teacher with experience of teaching any or a combination of Art, Design and Technology and Graphics to GCSE/A Level.

Ancora House School is an outstanding provision; this is a unique and exciting opportunity to work in a highly specialist environment alongside a clinical team, where you will have the opportunity to effect positive change for an extremely vulnerable group of learners.

Ancora House is the regional adolescent psychiatric unit in Chester and is based on the Countess of Chester Hospital site. Ancora House School provides education for the 30 inpatients at the hospital site and a further 24 learners in our community setting in Frodsham.

This post is based on the hospital site and the successful applicant will join an exemplary team of dedicated professionals.

We are committed to ensuring an ambitious curriculum offer exists for all learners including those with SEND; we believe in the importance of raising aspirations and supporting next steps through a robust academic and transition curriculum.

The successful applicant will evidence commitment and passion for their subject; they will be able to translate this passion into rich and engaging lessons for small groups and also for individuals. The role involves promoting engagement through arts activities, using observations in the classroom to contribute to assessment, delivery of lessons towards formal qualifications and delivery of enrichment activities.

The successful applicant will have good understanding of the potential impact of poor mental health, attachment and trauma on learners’ progress and be able to adapt their planning and delivery accordingly.

We require a dedicated practitioner who understands the importance of building and investing in positive relationships with the whole school community and who can adapt quickly, be flexible and respond with empathy as situations change.

If you have the personal and professional qualities to meet the exacting standards of this role we welcome your application to the post of Teacher of Art ( Maternity Cover)  at Ancora House School.

Opportunities for applicants to visit the setting prior to interview may be arranged by contacting the school on admin@ancora.cheshire.sch.uk.
