MIDDAY ASSISTANT - Permanent Contract (Term Time Only)
Grade 2 – SCP: 2 – actual salary £5523 per annum
Hours: 10hrs/week Term-time only
We seek to appoint a self-motivated, caring individual to join our team of Midday Assistants supervising children during the lunch break. Duties include ensuring that the children eat safely and behave appropriately and the encouragement of creative play.
Previous experience is not required for this role; however, individuals should be able to display a caring, common-sense attitude to children. A sense of humour and perspective will also be valued!
Responsible to: Midday Supervisor and Deputy Head Teacher
Duties:
The Midday Assistant will:
- escort pupils to and from the dining area;
- support a small nurture group at the start of the lunch break;
- ensure that pupils having a school lunch are in the dining hall at the correct time;
- help younger pupils at the servery counter with the proper use of cutlery, and help them cut up their food when necessary;
- aid pupils with the return and scraping of used plates, trays, cutlery and beakers, and with the cleaning of tables when lunch is finished;
- supervise pupils eating food brought from home, and ensure that all packed-lunch equipment is cleared away after use;
- report to the Midday Supervisor any child whose diet may give rise for concern;
- supervise groups of children in the playground or the classroom, depending on the weather;
- devise and start constructive play opportunities for children outdoors, supporting the safe use of play equipment;
- ensure that children remain within a safe environment, and that they play safely;
- ensure suitable behaviour standards in line with school policy;
- help children acquire social skills;
- attend to minor accidents sustained during the midday break, and seek appropriate assistance if necessary;
- attend to any pupil who becomes ill during the midday break, and again seek appropriate assistance;
- report to the Midday Supervisor any acts that constitute serious infringements of our school values;
- liaise effectively and professionally with staff, teachers and parents, as required;
- attend training as required;
- mop and maintain the hall floor as required;
- the post holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to time.
Training will be provided on the job and at selected times during the year. The willingness to undertake first aid training is essential for the post.
We take our duties towards safeguarding children very seriously and enhanced DBS clearance and references, one of which must be from your current or most recent employer, will be required for this position.
